What To Do When Waiting For The Promise

In our last episode, we saw how Abraham didn’t deny the condition of his body but he also didn’t consider it. He considered the promises and faithfulness of God.
In our last episode, we saw how Abraham didn’t deny the condition of his body but he also didn’t consider it. He considered the promises and faithfulness of God.
I want to talk more about what to do when as we expectantly wait for God’s promise to come to pass.
As we mentioned before, Abraham stayed focus on the promise and the faintfulness of God.
What else did Abraham do? Let’s look.
Romans 4 ESV
20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.
Abraham continued to give glory to God and in doing so he continued to grow strong.
Abraham glorified God as the God who was able to do what he promised. He continued to give God praise for who he is. Amen. This is what we must do. Praise God for his faithfulness. Praise God for being our provider. Praise God for being our healer. Praise God for being our shelter, our peace, our deliverer. Amen!
What else are we taught in Scripture to do?
Philippians 4 ESV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness[d] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Rejoice in the Lord is what we are instructed to do. This is what Paul was instructing the believers in Philipi to do and it’s our instructions as well.
Rejoice in the Lord always Paul said. And he said it again, rejoice!
Rejoicing in the Lord is kin to giving God glory! We thank God and praise for who he is and we rejoice about it. We celebrate his faithfulness and his goodness. We rejoice in and celebrate he watches over his Word to perform it. These are things we are to do.
We are also told to not be anxious but with thanksgiving let our request be known to God.
Let’s go back. How do we know we have what we have asked for?
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
We first make sure what we are asking for is in accordance with the will of God. That’s how we know he hears us and we have what we have asked for.
So until we see what we have asked for, we refuse to be anxious about it but instead give thanks. We have a heart of rejoicing and thanksgiving and God will by his grace fill our hearts and minds with peace.
So what do we do while waiting for the promises to come to pass?
We continue to give Glory to God for who he is. We rejoice in him. We continue to give thanks to him and we refuse to be anxious. And in doing so, God’s grace fills our hearts and minds with peace as we confidently and expectantly look to his promises to come to pass in our lives.
Amen!
