According to the website Bible.org, the primary Greek word for “confess” is homologeo which basically means “to say the same thing” and then “agree, admit, acknowledge.”
I want you to really get this meaning of agreeing with.
Part of the purpose of confession is to yield to God, submitting to him, bringing yourself under subjection to him by agreeing with him.
It’s not just confessing his promises you see in his Word, but sumitting yourself, your beliefs, to God’s truth about who God is, who you are and what he has said about you.
It’s that choosing to submit your thoughts to his truth and acting on it.
For example; Until we read what God has said in his Word about yourselves, it’s impossible to have a right view of ourselves. The only right view is God’s view and you have to discover what that is and the only way to do that is to read his Word and see.
Then you have to make the choice, am I going to decide for myself what truth is or am I going to yeild and humble myself before the Lord and say, “What you say is truth about you and about me. I choose to accept Words as Truth and I yeild my previous wrong beliefs to your truth. I make your truth my confession.”
1 Timothy 6:12 (WEB)
Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.
Hebrews 10:23 (ESV) says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
