Thy Word - Part 1
Download MP3Summary:
1 Thessalonians 2:13 WEB
13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.
The Word of God works in those who believe. Believe what? Believe God by believing his Word. Receiving the Word as the Word of God. Honoring the Word, Placing Value and highly Esteeming the Word.
Today I want to simply share scripture about the Word of God in hopes to remind us of what the Words we read in Scripture truly it, the Truth of God.
Let’s see how the Scripture’s refer to the Word and let’s see the Word of God in the light, the truth, that God wants us to.
John 3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. …
14 The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Scripture shows us the connection between Jesus and the Word of God, that in fact they are the same and God wants us to know and recognize that truth.
When we honor the Word, we are honoring God.
Years ago when I was in my senior year of High School, our football team was pretty good.
It came out in the paper that we were ranked as one of the top teams in the state. We found out because my dad had read it in the paper and told one of the players who came into the locker room with the news.
It was hard for us to believe but I’ll never forget what one of the guys on team said, “If Mr. Dumas said it, It must be true.”
That has stayed with me for all these years. What was said was believed because of who said it. To not believe what was said was to not believe the one who said it.
In other words, to honor the words said is honoring the one who said it.
When we don’t honor the Word, we are not honoring God.
Let’s read more of the Word of God.
Acts 11:14 WEB
1 Now the apostles and the brothers[a] who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 2 When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him, 3 saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!” 4 But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying, 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me. 6 When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky. 7 I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’ 8 But I said, ‘Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’ 9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’ 10 This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me. 12 The Spirit told me to go with them, without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house. 13 He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, ‘Send to Joppa, and get Simon, who is called Peter, 14 who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’
Isaiah 55:11 WEB
so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.
Matthew 4:4 WEB
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’”
Luke 11:28 WEB
But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”
We are to obey the Word of God. Not hearing and obeying the Word is not hearing and obeying God.
Psalm 107:20 WEB
He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves.
Psalm 119:105 WEB
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
John 17:17
Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth.
Isaiah 40:8 WEB
The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.
Hebrews 4:12 WEB
For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Psalm 56:3-4 WEB
“ When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
Psalm 138:2 World English Bible
“I will bow down toward your holy temple, and give thanks to your Name for your loving kindness and for your truth; for you have exalted your Name and your Word above all.”
The work that God wants to do in us is done by our receiving the Word as His Word.
Blessings in Christ,
