Summary:
This is part 3 of our episodes looking at the true account of Jesus healing a leper.
Mark 1:40-45
40 A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.”
41 Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, “I want to. Be made clean.” 42 When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was made clean. 43 He strictly warned him and immediately sent him out, 44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”
45 But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places. People came to him from everywhere.
Review
The leper came to Jesus with faith that he could heal him.
He did not have faith that Jesus would or that he was willing.
It’s important to realize the leper knew where he had faith and where he didn’t. We need to judge ourselves to see if we truly are in faith concerning the matters we are praying for and if not, we need to get in faith.
How?
What did the leper do? He came to Jesus with his faith and with his doubt.
Jesus didn’t just stretch out his hand and heal the leper. Jesus first addressed the doubt and spoke words by which faith would come into this leper and replace the doubt.
Remember Romans 10:17 “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The only way to address our doubt or the doubt of others is by the Word of God which reveals the truth of God and the will of God.
When someone else asks you to pray with them, it’s important to take time to see where their faith is. If there is doubt, take time to address the doubts with the Word until the doubts are replaced by faith.
Let me share with you a verse from Luke.
Luke 6:17 WEB
He came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
They came to hear and be healed.
We must first desire to hear what God’s will is and know what it is, then we can stand in faith and ask for his will to be done in our lives.
Question
Let’s say you are in need of healing. If Jesus appeared to you today and you asked him if he was willing to heal you, would Jesus say to you anything different than he did to the leper? No.
