Strong in the Lord and the Power of His Might
Download MP3Jesus is our example. His earthly walk showed us the will of the Father and how to walk in it.
If anyone was strong, it was Jesus. What made him strong?
Let’s look at John 6:38
John 6:38 - For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
Everything Jesus did and everything Jesus said was in perfect alignment with the will of the Father.
It was knowing the will of the Father and an unwavering commitment to doing that will that made Jesus strong.
Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
What Jesus said and did perfectly lined up with the Word of God, which is the will of God.
Jesus stood against temptation and attacks from the enemy by knowing the Word, which reveals the will of the Father, and by his commitment to do the will of the father.
Jesus was strong because he knew the Word and was committed to the Word.
They way we become strong in the Lord is the same way, by knowing the Word and being fully committed to doing it.
Now let’s talk about being in the power of his might.
Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
I want you to see that the power of God is connected with the Gospel of Christ. Gospel means good news or the message of Christ. Gospel means the good news of knowing it’s the Father’s will for us to be redeemed through the redemptive work of Christ so that we can come into a relationship with the Father and receive the life God has for us.
That message is the power of God for everyone who believes!
If we are going to be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, it’s going to take knowing the Word, a commitment to do and act on the Word, with a firm belief and assurance that it is God’s revealed will for us.
Hebrews 4:2 NKJV
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Now you may remember in James 2 it says faith without works is dead. That means you need to take action on your faith. It’s not enough to hear the Word, you have to respond to it with corresponding action.
This comes back to the commitment to knowing the Word, believing the Word and acting on the Word. To the extent we do this will determine how strong we are in the Lord and in the power of his might.
Let’s be strong. Let’s believe God for His grace to have an unwavering commitment to knowing, believing and acting on His Word. In doing so, we will be committing to knowing His Will, Accepting His Will and acting inline with his will. This puts us in a place of strength and power.
Blessings in Christ,
Tim Dumas
