Summary:

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. - Romans 12:15

Nothing connects you more with a person than you excited about what they are excited about or feeling their pain just because they are hurting.

Jesus wept even though he new Lazarus was about to rise. I believe because he hurt for those who were hurting.

I want to focus on the first part of this verse…

Rejoice with those who rejoice. And, I want to give you a specific application for it.

What if the something good that is happening to someone is also a let down or even a hurt to you.

For example:

Not choosing you to represent them in a real estate transaction.

Of course there are different reasons that happens but sometimes it hurts because you already had an understanding or was told it would be you representing them.

Let’s say the person you like marries someone else…

There’s lots of way to apply this verse.

So how.  How do you rejoice with others when you are hurting?

A couple of truths we find in Scripture.

First:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13 NKJV

Can we do what the Word says? Yes.

How?

Faith and Grace

1 Corinthians 15:12
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The simple fact that the Word says to do something, tells us through the Word we can have faith to access the grace to do what the Word says.

Romans 10:17…  So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In the words,  rejoice with those who rejoice, is the power to produce faith in you to access the grace to do it.

Because Jesus told Peter to come, Peter could  walk on the water!

If we are happy and celebrate when good things happen to others, it gives us a whole lot more opportunities to be happy.

I know sometimes we are hurt but we don’t have to stay in the hurt. We can come out and rise above.

Caring for our hearts is important.

Remember,  A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: Proverbs 17:22

We can continue with friendships, if we desire to, with people who have hurt us.

It’s all about by taking steps of obedience by faith and experiencing the grace of God kicking in, or empowering you to do it.

Then we too say, “it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”

If I’m happy for people when good things happen to them, I end up having more opportunities to be happy. That’s good for me and we both end up being blessed.

If I get excited when someone shares with me about something good happening in their life, they feel good and are glad they shared with me.

Blessings in Christ,
Tim Dumas
