Praying With Expectation
Download MP3 Praying With Expectation
So often people pray with little expectation for what they are praying for to come to pass. To many it’s more of a, “Let’s wait and see.” type of thing.
But is that what the Scripture teaches? That we pray then wait and see what happens and whatever happens or doesn’t happen reveals what God’s will is?
Let me share again some of the Scriptures I shared from the last episode and then add more a few more.
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Matthew 7:7-8 ESV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
2 Corinthians 1:20 Amplified Bible
20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God.
John 16:23-24
English Standard Version
23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Now let me add another.
John 15:7 ESV
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
There is a time in prayer where you wait to hear God’s answer to find out his will but when it comes to praying for the promises, the promises already reveal God’s will. We are not praying then playing the “Wait and see” game to determine God’s will.
We are praying according to the promises in his Word which reveal his will, fully expecting them to come to pass.
Let me give you an example. Let’s look at the promise found in 1 John 1:9. That verse says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (ESV)
Now If a Christian sins, came they go to God to confess his sins and ask for forgiveness? Yes. After asking for forgiveness, does that person wait to see what God will do? What his will is concerning forgiveness? Does he pray, “Lord, I’ve sinned. Please forgive me if it be your will?”
No, of course not. Why? Because the Scripture reveals the will of God which is to forgive us and cleanse us of righteousness when we confess our sin. That’s his Word, his Will and his Promise!
We come to God, confessing our sin, then believe his Word and accept his forgiveness and cleansing by faith. We act on his promise with full assurance we receive forgiveness. Not because we deserve it, but because God revealed through his Word that forgiveness is his will.
Amen.
Now let me point out some important things we must know as we grow in our prayer life and in praying with confidence and becoming effective with our prayers.
2 Corinthians 1:20 Amplified Bible, says, “For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.”” It’s the promises that come with a yes.
1 John 5:14-15 ESV says, “14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”
Our confidence comes from asking according to his will. His will is revealed by his Word so you could say ask according to his Word. His Word is where his promises are so you could even say ask according to his Promises.
Praying for what God has promised is how we move closer to 100% answered prayer.
But I don’t want to leave out John 15:7 ESV which says, “7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Here we see our abiding in Christ and his Words abiding in us is a foundational part of being effective in praying.
I again want you to look over these verses and let them have an effect on how you think about praying. I want you to believe your effectiveness in praying can increase as you spend time in the Word and abiding, or living, by the Word. We want to be effective in our Christian walk and that includes being effective in prayer.
Blessings,
