Scripture:
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Matthew 7:7-8 ESV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV
20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20 Amplified Bible
20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God.
John 16:23-24
English Standard Version
23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Summary:
Let me ask you, do these Scriptures indicate that God wants us to come to him in prayer not just asking, but also receiving?
Instead of lowering our expectations concerning answered prayer, shouldn’t we raise our expectations to match the level we see in Scripture, and then make it a goal to achieve it by studying the Word to see how to improve our prayer life.
Is it possible to get better and more effective in praying?
I believe the Scriptures teach yes it is.
I have these verses in the show notes. What I would like for you to do is to look them up for yourselves and read them. I would suggest you even mark them or write them down so that you can come back to them and meditate on them over and over. We need to change our mindset and what we expect to line up with God’s Word instead of being influenced by past experience or what others have said.
Let’s believe God and raise our expectations to be inline with the Word of God.
