Practical Health Teaching Part 2

Know it is God’s will for his children to walk in health.

3 John 2 World English Bible
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.

Pray & Continue to Forgive

Ephesians 4:32 WEB
And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Mark 11:25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Unconfessed sin can hinder your faith to fight sickness.

Develop Healthy Living Habits

Rest, Nutrition, Exercise, Don’t over do it.
As you get older, your living habits may need to change

 Example: Overworking.
Philippians 2:25-30 English Standard Version
25 I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, 26 for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. 29 So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men, 30 for he nearly died[a] for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me.

No Stress/Anxiety

Stress and overwork can have a negative effect on our digestion system which can cause health problems.

Philippians 4:4-7 ESV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Go And Sin No More

John 5
11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”

Sickness is in the world because of sin. Not all sickness is a result of personal sin but we do see that sin can be an open door for sickness. The reverse of that is Faith and living according to the Word can be a closed door to sickness.

Get Wisdom/Help from Doctors

Seeing a Doctor or taking medicine Doesn’t mean a lack of faith. It’s doing what we can in the natural to go along with our faith in God as the Lord who Heals.  Let’s be clear, Scripture doesn’t show God is against Doctors or medicine. In fact, it shows the opposite.

Luke 5:31
“And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.”

Luke the disciple was a doctor. Colossians 4:14

Jesus was referred to himself as a physician.  Mark 2:17, Luke 4:23

Medicine can be good.
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. - 1 Timothy 5:23

It’s okay to go to the Doctor but keep God first. Seek him first. And if you do go to the doctor, pray for the wisdom for the right doctor and pray for the doctor.  Listen to what the doctor says, but if they say there is no hope, know that in Christ, there is.

We do see in Scripture where a king went to the doctor without seeking God.
2 Chronicles 16:11-13 NIV
11 The events of Asa’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians. 13 Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors.

Get Your House In Order

At some point you are going to die. It’s important to have your house in order and ready to go, both you, and what you leave for your loved ones. This in itself will take away a lot of worry and anxiety. Fight for health but be ready to go see Jesus. Do what you can to leave things in order for your loved ones.

2 Kings 20:1-2 English Standard Version
Hezekiah's Illness and Recovery
20 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’”  (He did cry out to God and got 15 more years.)

The Promise

Psalm 91:15-16
15 When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

Always know it's God's will to be in health and always fight for it.
