Jesus, Lord of Our Marriage
Download MP3Today we continue to talk about marriage. Our goal should not be a good marriage but instead, a godly marriage. A marriage that non only honors God but a marriage where both spouses commit to following God's will, his plan and depend on God's grace to live it out!
Too often we live our lives and then go to God when we get in trouble. Many marriages are like that, they turn to God asking Him for help because their marriage is in trouble.
God is merciful but his plan is that we look to Him the whole time. We look to His Word to see His plan for marriage and continually trust him for his guidance and grace to live it out.
I once heard a minister say, "There's never been one divorce when both walked in love." Now he was talking about walking in love the way God intends us too and I believe he was correct. If both walk in love and make Jesus Lord of their marriage, they will make it. Their marriage will flourish.
We talked in our last episode how God turned the bitter water into sweet by instructing Moses to put the log or tree in the water. That tree represented to redemptive work of Christ when he hung on the cross.
In the same way, God can take a bitter or failing marriage and make it into something sweet, something wonderful, if we will seek Him and His ways and know the reality of Christ redemptive life changing, life giving work.
I want to quickly cover again what happened next in Genesis 15.

25b There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, 26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
God's wants us to know Him as our Healer. Healer in our bodies, our minds, our hearts, our marriages, our families!!
Just as in physical healing, healing for our marriages comes through his Word.
Psalm 107:20
19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them,
and delivered them from their destruction.
21 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Let's look at another verse.
2 Chronicles 7:14. English Standard Version
14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Just as he will heal their land, he will heal their marriages.
I don't care what shape your marriage is in. If you want it saved and are willing to humble yourself and seek God, if you are willing to turn from wicked ways which includes not putting God first in your marriage, then God will come in and do a wondrous work in your life and in your marriage.
First step. Humble yourself. Second Step. Seek God, His Truth, His Will, His Mercy, His Grace, which is all revealed and comes alive to us through His life giving Word. Third, as God shows you His truth and light is shown on your errors, repent of them and turn from them.
Let me tell you. Once you start seeking God, you will be amazed and how far you have fallen short and yet still the mercy of God is covering you!
God is good.
Psalm 86:5 WEB For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,
abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.
Psalm 145:18 ESV The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
There is hope because there is Jesus! We will talk more about this in our next episode.
