Hold Fast To Your Confession Part 2
Download MP3Holding fast to speaking God's will for our lives is what we are to do. His promises reveal his will.
Hebrews 10:23 ESV
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Do you see how the confession is connected to what has been promised and the faithfulness of the one who promised, God?
So our confession is determined by the promises and the faithfulness of God.
Let’s look at another portion of Scripture directing us to hold fast to our confession.
Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
What are we being told to do? Hold fast to our confession, draw near to the throne of grace, receive mercy and find grace to help.
What’s being connected to these instructions and why are we told to do it?
Because of Jesus who is our high priest.
Let’s look at little more about what the book of Hebrews says of Jesus being our High Priest.
Hebrews 7
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Let me share verse 25 now from the Amplified Bible
25 Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them.
So remember what we as believers are instructed to do in Chapter 4 because of who Jesus is; Hold fast to our confession, draw near to the throne of grace, receive mercy and find grace to help.
Now again Hebrews 7:25
He is able also to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them.
When we come to God to know him, to know his promises and to walk in his will, we are not coming alone. Jesus is representing us as our high priest, making petitions to God and interceding on our behalf.
This is why we can hold fast with confidence. He is faithful. He has promised and Jesus is always making intercession for us.
Now let’s look at another verse which is one of my favorites.
2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
