His Promises Are Precious

In our last episode, we shared how the Scripture talks about taking hold of this life we now have in Christ. We do it by faith and part of that process is confessing or agreeing with God what his Word says about what he has given us and done for us through the redemptive work of Christ.

Part of that is found in Romans 5:5 where he find out that God’s love has been poured out in our hearts by the Spirit of God who has been given to us.

We talked about how 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 tells us what love is like and what love is and how by our confession of faith, we say God’s love is in me and this is what his love is like and what it does.

In doing so, we are stirring up and growing in what God has already done so that it will manifest in our lives. We begin to love the way God has called us to love.

How I want to look at this growing process more as we see more teaching on it in 2 Peter Chapter 1 (ESV)

1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Here’s what I want to point out to you today.

God has already given us everything we need to be who he has called us to be. We begin to experience is by learning, by hearing what he has done and that gives us the knowledge of is. His Word reveals his truth and his Word is to be taken as a promises that he watches over to perform when we accept it, believe it and act as thought it’s true.

Part of that acting as though it’s true, is saying it’s true. We say it’s true for us. As we do that, we change. The power of God works in us and we change.

The promises we see in Scripture should be of great value to us because it’s knowing and believing these promises that we access the power of God to work in and through us.

2 Peter 1:4 says we “he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature”.

You have the opportunity to become more and more the person God has called you to be by knowing his Word, receiving it as truth for you, believing his Word and acting on it, specifically by saying it’s true for you.

I encourage you to trust God to do a work in you. Give God permission to do something wonderful in you and then yield to him by believing and acting on his Word.

Philippians 1:6 New International Version
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

May God's Richest and Best be Yours,
