Healing Of The Nobleman’s Son - Part 1
Download MP3Healing Of The Nobleman’s Son
We continue to look at the true accounts of Jesus ministering healing during his earthly ministry. We are seeing what Jesus did and said because it is how we understand the will and heart of the Father. John 6:38, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.”
We are learning the Father’s will for our lives because he doesn’t change and His will doesn’t change.
Scripture
John 4:46-54 ESV
46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour[c] the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. 54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.
Points:
Humbleness is part of receiving from God
Our mindset matters. It takes belief. It takes faith.
Seeing God move in our lives affects others.
Humbleness
This was an official, others translations say “nobleman” came to see Jesus. This in itself was an act of humility. He was in need of help and he came to Jesus. He didn’t send for Jesus, he came to him. The distance between Capernaum and Galilee is about 16 miles. So that was a significant distance if you were riding a horse or especially if you were walking.

In coming to Jesus, the official, the father, showed humility.
Humility is a big part of walking with and receiving from God.
James 4:6 ESV “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5-6
5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
Micah 6:8 ESV
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Humbleness before God is showing honor to Him. It shows a right heart before him, not demanding from God but seeking God and acknowledging your dependence on him.
I want you to see another verse about humbleness and honoring God.
1 Samuel 2:30 ESV
30 Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Honor and humility is a decision. The way you improve your humility is by focusing on showing honor.
Humbleness is a big part of walking with and receiving from God.
