God is Good and Faithful
Download MP3Our goal is to grow in our prayer life; in praying knowing what to pray for, how to pray and to learn to pray effectively and with power.
We talked in our last episode about God’s willingness to answer prayer and to provide. This is so important because so many of us have had a wrong view of God concerning his willingness to act on our behalf. But mostly we’ve not understood his faithfulness to himself. By that I mean he always acts according to who he is and in faithfulness to what he has said.
The Scripture says God is love. God always acts from a heart of love.
1 John 4:7-8 ESV
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
It was because God is love and was faithful to who he is, that he sent Jesus.
John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God is faithful to himself and he’s also faithful to his Word.
Jeremiah 1:12 ESV
Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”
Now let me share another verse with you along these lines.
2 Timothy 2:13 ESV
if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.
Even if when we struggle and disobey God, his promises still stand and if we will come back to him with a repentant heart, and believe him and his Word, he will still fulfill his Word in our lives because to deny his Word is to deny himself and he will not do that.
I’ve talked to people who don’t believe God will do things for them because of how many times they have failed. We’ve got to understand his faithfulness isn’t as much to us as it is to himself and to his Word.
We have in our minds that God may do something for someone else but now for us. No, that’s not true. His promises are for anyone that will come to him and believe him.
Psalm 84:11 ESV
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
God doesn’t hold back from us. If we will trust him, believe him, walk in his ways, walk according to his Word, then we can expect him to act on his promises on our behalf.
Listen to what Psalm 35:7 ESV says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”
We have to get our minds off ourselves and get our minds on God. We have to believe he is good, believe he is faithful to his own nature and to his own promises, his Word.
We have to believe he answers prayer to have an effective prayer life.
