Don’t Throw Away Your Confidence
Download MP3I want to talk about confidence. The Scripture shares that because of Christ and his redemptive work, we have this covenant relationship with the Father, which we can have confidence in. Confidence in who God is. Confidence in his will. Confidence in the fact that we have a great High Priest, Jesus himself, who is interceding for us.
Hebrews 10 talks about Jesus as our High Priest and about our confidence through and because of him.
But first let me again share 1 John 5:14-15 because it also talks about confidence.
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Not let’s hear God’s Word from Hebrews 10.
Hebrews 10 ESV
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
Hebrews 10:35 Amplified Bible
“Do not, therefore, fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward.”
I looked up the word confidence and basically there’s three types.
One, is self-assurance. It’s confidence in yourself. That’s not what the Scripture is talking about.
Another is confidence in that something is true. This is the type of confidence the Scripture is talking about. His Word is true. His Word reveals the truth of God’s will.
Thirdly is confidence in another. This is also what the Scripture is talking about when it talks about the confidence we are to have. Our confidence is in God. It’s in Jesus and his redemptive Work.
Holding fast to your confidence is holding fast to the truth of God and who God is. Amen. Don’t ever let go of the truth of God. Amen.
Blessings,
Tim Dumas
