Ask In Faith
Download MP3We are still talking about 100% answered prayer. Today we will focus on asking in faith and our text will be from James Chapter 1
James 1:5-8 ESV
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
The example given here is asking for wisdom but we need to know that what is being taught just doesn’t go for wisdom. What is taught about asking in faith can be applied to anything that we know is God’s will.
If a person lacks wisdom, the Scripture says they are to ask God. James 1:5
There’s a lot said just in those few words. Some believe if God wants them to have something, then they will have it. The Scripture says if you lack, you are to ask. Some want others to pray for them and that’s okay but we have to pray for ourselves too. The Scripture says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask.
Who do we ask? We ask God.
What are we to believe about God according to the passage we read.
“who gives generously to all without reproach”
God is a generous God and we should believe that about him. We should believe that we we ask, we are asking of God who gives generously.
We are to also believe he gives generously to all. I’m glad that “to all” is included aren’t you?
And, the Scripture says he gives to all without reproach. Reproach means to find fault with.
God isn’t looking to find fault.
Now let’s again read verse 6 and 7.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
We are to ask in faith with no doubting.
How can we ask in faith? By knowing what God’s will is in the matter. We know what God’s will is according to what has been revealed through his Word and that’s why faith comes from hearing the Word.
Romans 10:17 (WEB)
So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Now let’s read the passage that confirms what we have been sharing.
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Know what God’s will is. Find it out by reading his Word. Once you know it, believe it, act on it which includes praying and asking God for it, then trust God to fulfill his Word in your life.
