Download MP3The condition of our heart is up to us.

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.. Proverbs 17:22 ESV

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 ESV
Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1)
If our hearts are troubled, it’s because we allow it. I know there’s times of trouble and sorrow but there comes a point when we have to decide if we are going to let the circumstances get to us or are we going to trust God. And this is what Jesus seems to be saying, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
We are talking about having a heart that is joyful and rejoicing. Did you know you can rejoice in the middle of a bad situation?
Remember in Acts 16, Paul and Silas were on their way to pay when they met a slave girl and cast the demon out of her. Afterwards they were beat, thrown into prison and had their feet put in stocks. The next thing that happens is what we read in verse 25, “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God…”
Here they were, had been beat, were in jail, it’s midnight and they decided to pray and sing hymns unto God.
Maybe Paul and Silas were thinking about Psalm 119:62
Psalm 119:62
At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.
Did they let their present circumstances give reason not to give praises to God? No.
Did they have a rejoicing heart while in prison? Yes
We must decide to guard our hearts and part of that is rejoicing even when the circumstances are tough.
