A Bitter Marriage Made Sweet
Download MP3The Israelites had just witnessed God’s power in saving them by opening up the Red Sea so that they could pass through and then the army of Egypt drowning as they tried to do the same in pursuit of the Israelites.
Now let’s see what happened next in this true story but reading from Exodus 15.
Exodus 15
1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,
“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider[a] he has thrown into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The Lord is a man of war;
the Lord is his name.
4 “Pharaoh's chariots and his host he cast into the sea,
and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.
5 The floods covered them;
they went down into the depths like a stone.
6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,
your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
Now down to verse 22
22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
If you are in a struggling marriage, you may think your only options are to get out of the marriage or to just suffer through a life of unhappiness. You have another option! His name is Jesus!
God’s love saved my marriage and I’ve seen his love save many others as well. He is willing to do the same for you!
This beautiful story, found in Exodus 15 is an example of what God will do. The Israelites were in need of water but the water before them was bitter and not fit to drink. Moses prayed and God gave him the answer. He showed Moses a tree (a log) and instructed him to have it thrown into the water. When he did, the bitter water became sweet! This is an example of Christ. Jesus heals. Jesus makes things whole and makes the bitter (even our marriages) sweet!
Your marriage may be struggling now but there is hope. That hope is Jesus. He wants to be Lord of your marriage. He wants to lead you into his will for your marriage. By following Christ and allowing the love of God to flow into your hearts, your marriage can change. Your marriage can be healed and made whole. Your marriage can be made sweet!
Where to start?
Start by looking to God’s Word for how we are to treat each other with love and forgiveness. Look at the Scriptures that reveal God’s plan for marriage and His principles to go by. Read different visions including the Amplified. Commit your marriage to God. Make Jesus Lord of your marriage. Do what He says.
Let’s continue with Exodus 15 and see what happened next.
25b There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, 26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
If you will diligently listen and head to his voice, his Word and act on it, he says you will know him as The Lord your Healer. You can also know him as the Healer of your Marriage by knowing the Word, seeking his will and acting on it.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. - Psalm 37:5 (ESV)
Look to God. Look to his Word. He is always willing to show mercy and give us grace and help in time of need.
There is hope because there is Jesus! We will talk more about this in our next episode.
